Unveiling CIBF

Chennai Book Fair that takes place during the Pongal harvest festival days of January every year has remained a must-visit event for book lovers from across the country. It is also one of the world's largest B2C book fairs going by the number of visitors it attracts.

However, the forthcoming 46th edition, to be held in January 2023 (exact dates will be announced soon), will be a much more special event. This event will go global as the Chennai International Book Fair (CIBF), reaching a big stupendous milestone. It is all set to bring readers of the 80 million strong Tamil community from around the world, closer to the global reading scene, thus becoming more relevant to the current trends.

The fair’s going international is long overdue as Tamil is a truly global language, being one of the official or nationally-recognised languages in India, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia. It is also one of the world’s oldest living languages, with a documented history dating back to more than three thousand years.
The Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, a state-owned agency, will host the first edition of the Chennai International Book Fair. The international co-event at the fair will feature a rights fair, a translation grant programme, an international conference on the future of language publishing markets, a guest of honour programme and an international pavilion showcasing the books and cultures of the guest countries.
